What is SCRIP?
Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish has a program where you can buy gift cards to certain stores or restaurants at face value. The parish pays a percentage less (varies by store) than face value for these cards. Half the profit the parish earns gets put back into the parish, but the other half can go toward PREP tution here at Saint Teresa of Calcutta.
How do I buy SCRIP?
The PREP Curriculum is available in more detail on the Archdiocese Website. A brief overview is provided for you here, but please contact your student's teacher if you have questions about the curriculum. A brief overview of what each level is covering is available in our newsletter.
Kindergarten
Experiencing mystery, wonder, and awe in his life, the child learns to celebrate Jesus’ being, to rejoice in Jesus’ love for him, and respond to Jesus’ love and friendship.
Level One
We discuss Creation, Jesus' life, Mary as our MOther and as Queen of Heaven. We learn about the Sacraments, espeacially Baptism. During the year the importance of Advent-Christmas, Len-Easter, and the other Holy Days are explained as they occur. The prayers that muste be learned are: The Sign of the Cross, the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be.
Level Two
Second Level consists of learning more about Jesus, God, Prayer, and being a Christian person. The children are becoming more familiar with the Mass, choosing right from wrong and finding out that God truly is a forgiving God. The Ten Commandments are reviewed and explained in more detail in preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Parents and child(ren) must successfully complete preparation material for the sacrament and the child must have a satisfactory attendance record before receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Level Three
The Sacramental Program of Eucharist is taught in Level Three in preparation for the child to receive their First Holy Communion. There is a review of the sacrament of Baptism and the Ten Commandments. Time is also spent on the Liturgical seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. Students must have successfully completed two years of preparation and a satisfactory attendance record before receiving the Sacrament of Eucharist.
Level Four
Students in Level Four explore in depth the Ten Commandments, importance of being a member of the Church, celebrating the Eucharist, and sharing the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. They are encouraged to try to live according to the Law of Love, The Beatitudes, and The Works of Mercy. Special emphasis is on celebrating the Liturgical Seasons.
Level Five
Level Five curriculum centers on the worship of the Church. Each of the seven sacraments is studied in depth. The Eucharistic Celebration, The Mass, is also explored, as well as the vestments, vessels, and ministers involved in this celebration.
Level Six
Level Six students are introduced to the history and origins of the Inspired Word of God (the Bible). They learn, by book, chapter, and verse, how to use the Bible as a source of God’s will for them. Students will begin to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Decision Point (Level Seven)
Key life issues are introduced and young people are taught through the process of gathering, believing and responding to help them reflect on God’s presence in their lives. They are called to recognize, live, explore and share their faith. Various specific issues dealing with morality may be discussed. Parents and child(ren) must successfully complete preparation material for the sacrament and the child must have a satisfactory attendance record before receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.
High School / Youth Group
Attention is given to who they are and how to deal with their adolescent/adult feelings. They are confronted with real life situations and instructed through activities and discussions how to apply their faith and increase their relationship with God.
As a student approaches Confirmation it is time for him/her to focus on his/her place in the Kingdom of God. God has a unique plan for each one of us and he gives us personalities and talents to help us his will in our lives. Below are only some ideas your child might like to consider. Each child should prayerfully seek ways to reach out and share the warmth of God's love with those around them.
Working With Children
Working to teach younger children about their faith is a fun and interactive service project. Confirmandi are able to volunteer to help with our parish SEEDS program (at 10:30 Mass during the school year), as well as volunteering to help with our vacation bible school which takes place in July. If you are interested in these programs, please contact the PREP office.

Support a Charity
If a student has a link to a certain cause (cancer, babies, etc.) they can consider ways to support that charity. Participating in a walk-a-thon, making blankets, raising awareness for Birthright are all examples of this. In addition, perhaps writing a play or making a video to creatively raise funds or awareness.
Working With the Elderly
Some students like to spend time with the elderly. There are many age-appropriate ways to do this. Some students have helped with game nights (like Bingo), spent time reading to the elderly, or even playing chess. If there is an elderly neighbor perhaps helping walk their pet or take care of their yard would be good service ideas.
Outreach to the Missionaries of Charity in Norristown
The Outreach to Missionaries of Charity group provides hot cooked meals for underprivileged adults and children at the Sister's of Charity Mission Home in Norristown. Volunteers prepare the meals at home and meet every third and fourth Saturday of the month at the Mission to set up and serve the food. The program has become a family oriented effort, with spouses, children and grandchildren all coming together to help out. Often times the group will also help with other Mission chores, such as sorting through boxes of donated clothing.
St. Jude's Hospital for Children
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay. Your class or child can raise money to help other children who are ill and in need of healthcare.
ConKerr Cancer
Has provided nearly 400,000 pillowcases made by thousands of volunteers from across North America and in South Africa. School groups, sewing circles, church groups and fabric stores have all pitched in and are making pillowcases for the kids. An exciting new program has been to take fabric and sewing machines to hospitals and sew with the patients and their families. Our goal is to give a bright cheery pillowcase to every seriously ill child in North America by 2015. In addition, we are expanding internationally with chapters in Canada & South Africa.
Little Dresses for Africa
Little Dresses for Africa is a non-profit 501c3, Christian based organization which provides relief to the children of Africa. Simple dresses are made out of pillow cases and distributed through the orphanages, churches and schools in Africa to plant in the hearts of little girls that they are worthy!
